Partners

Brian P. Jaye, CPA

Brian is a 1974 graduate of California State University , Northridge with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.  He founded the firm in 1979 with offices in Tarzana , California and in 1991 relocated the firm offices to Thousand Oaks , California .  Brian emphasizes providing accounting, business advisory, estate planning, financial planning, merger and acquisition, and taxation services to closely-held business’ and their owners.  A primary focus is to assist business owners with increasing the value of their business for a successful sale at retirement.  Brian enjoys spending time at lake and mountain recreational areas with his family and friends.

 

 Mark Reader

 Mark holds a Bachelor in Science and Masters in Taxation from California State University Northridge.  He spent the first 11 years of his accounting career in the middle market area at KPMG, LLP in the Warner Center Office with the Manufacturing, Retailing and Distribution Practice.  He further spent 9 years as a tax director in the private sector.  Mark recently joined Brian Jaye and Donald Rhodes to expand the breadth of services he has to offer his clientele.  Mark specializes in assisting small and middle market business clients to obtain the maximum positive results they desire in the areas of accounting and an emphasis in taxation.  Mark enjoys spending time in the outdoors performing  many outdoor activities with his family and the martial arts. He currently holds a second dan black belt in the art of Tang Soo Do.

 

Donald R. Rhodes, CPA

Don is a graduate of UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics.  After practicing in the LaCanada/Glendale area for many years, Don joined Brian Jaye ’s firm in 1998. Don specializes in assisting small and middle market business clients with accounting, consulting, financial statement preparation, planning, income tax preparation, accounting system design, and accounting software matters.  He works closely with the firm’s construction industry clients with an emphasis on the percentage of completion accounting method.  Don and his wife, Pam, enjoy family time with their four children, and are very active in their church activities.  Don is an avid UCLA fan and also enjoys singing, golfing, and playing and coaching basketball.


Tax Department

Stephen Gordon

Steve is a graduate of the University of Southern California (B.A., 1975), Loyola Marymount University  (J.D., 1978) and the University of Florida (LL.M. in Taxation, 1979).  For several years Steve taught as an adjunct faculty member at the Golden Gate University School of Taxation where he was awarded the Distinguished Teaching Award. Steve joined our staff in 2008 to assist and advise us with respect to various tax matters being handled by our firm. A native of Southern California , Steve enjoys residing there with his wife and children.
 

 

Client Service Representatives

Sue Coughlin

Sue has been with our firm since 1980.  She began her career in public accounting in 1969 and is a Certified Quickbooks Advisor. Sue’s responsibilities include accounting and bookkeeping, financial statement preparation, income tax return preparation, and client government compliance matters.  She enjoys spending time and being involved with her teenage son, camping and traveling.


 

 

 Lori Barthmuss

Lori knows numbers and food having earned a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and business administration from the University of Dayton in Ohio.   After graduation, Lori spent 15 years in the hospitality industry running all facets of the hotel and restaurant business in various parts of the country, serving as a general and a district manager, sales and catering manager, and financial controller.   Shortly after Lori and her family relocated to California in 2003, she started work for Mark D Reader CPA where she is responsible for general bookkeeping.  When Lori isn’t busy crunching numbers, preparing taxes or dealing with various payroll issues, she’s busy taking care of her two daughters, two dogs, and her wayward husband of 20 years.  Lori is a tireless local volunteer, and as a certified USA swimming official,  finds time to run swim meets across the So Cal region for her daughters’ club swim team.

 

Julie Valerie

Julie joined the firm in 2006. She has over eight years of experience working as an accounting manager in the private business sector. While living in the Victor Valley area for three years, she worked part time for a local CPA, and also began her own bookkeeping business. She enjoys spending her free time and weekends with her two daughters.
 

 

 

 

Suzanne Rushing

Suzanne joined the firm in 2008. She came to us from a small construction company where she was the Accounting/Human Resources Administrator. After beginning her career working for a large corporation gaining experience in various areas of bookkeeping and financial reporting, she took a long break to raise and home educate her children. She is very active in her church and loves spending time with her husband and three sons.

 

 

 

Administration

Lisa Takeguma

Lisa joined Jaye & Rhodes as firm administrator in February 2003, but has worked with Don Rhodes independently since 1997. She graduated from the University of Illinois in the field of education and is a former elementary school teacher. When not working at Jaye, Reader & Rhodes, she is either going to garage sales for that “great deal,” taking walks, or singing in the church choir. Her family keeps her busy with two in college and her youngest in high school.
